The silent contamination.
A campaign of cinematic capsules for Zombie Opéra, the new production of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège.
Zombie Opéra is an in-house production of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, with a clear goal: to speak to a younger audience that doesn’t necessarily walk through the doors of the opera. To promote the show, the Opera entrusted us with a campaign that first had to make people want to come, and scare them a little.
Our stance: never show the opera. We wrote a series of single-shot micro-scenes that borrow their grammar from zombie films, from Dawn of the Dead to It Follows. The threat is at the back of the frame, in a reflection, off screen. The viewer sees it before the characters do.
Blue acts as the signal of contamination. It links all the scenes and ends up spilling into the city: a café terrace, a pedestrian crossing, a fridge, security cameras, then an invaded supermarket. At first the zombies are hidden; then you notice them; in the end, they are everywhere.
The shoot produced about ten short capsules with a very cinematic look, and a series of photos. The capsules ran on social media, but also on the big screen: they were shown before the films in the Grignoux cinemas.
